Sail into Historic Exploration with Key West Art & Historical Society, SV Argo Navis and Park Ranger Ed Cunningham
September 21, 2022 – (KEY WEST, FL). On Saturday, October 8, launching at 9:00 a.m., noted Fort Zachary Taylor park ranger and Key West Botanical Garden board president Ed Cunningham will lead the first in a series of monthly historically informative two-hour seafaring excursions presented by Key West Art & Historical Society in partnership with S/V Argo Navis.
Passengers aboard the luxury catamaran Argo Navis can enjoy bloody marys, mimosas or non-alcoholic beverages and pastries while Ranger Ed shares the illuminating back-story and personal insights on the day’s topic, “The History and Significance of Fort Zachary Taylor.” Ed, a utility forestry specialist by trade, has been a dedicated ranger at the state park and fort since 2016. His knowledge of the fortification and the surrounding expanse will delight attendees and give them a deeper understanding of one of most treasured historic structures.
The next two upcoming tours on Argo Navis are “Captain Benjamin Baker & Florida Keys Pineapple Farming,” presented by Keys historian Brad Bertelli on November 12, and “Lighthouses of the Florida Keys,” presented by curator and historian Cori Convertito, Ph.D., on December 15.
Historic Seaport Sails are limited to 50 attendees; reserve your spot now at kwahs.org/upcoming-events – $75 for KWAHS members, $90 for non-members. This project is sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and the State of Florida, with additional support provided by The Helmerich Trust and S/V Argo Navis.
