The Key West Art & Historical Society is excited to offer a series of fun historical lectures entitled ‘Happy Hour with the Historian’.
Historian: Cori Convertito Ph.D.
Topic: Yellow Jack in Key West: Yellow Fever, Dr. Mudd, Dr. Porter & The Florida Department of Health
This talk will explore the effects of yellow fever in the early days of Key West and the Florida Keys. Using many first hand accounts from the 1820s through the Spanish-American War, we gain an understanding of everyday life in the archipelago. Through the efforts of notable people, including Dr. Joseph Yates Porter and Dr. Mudd, residents began to understand the disease and how to bring it under control.
